Research Scientist

We're looking for a Research Scientist to join our team in Sydney, Australia.

Are you a scientist with a passion for translational research?

About us

We are Inventia Life Science and we are radically changing the way the world treats disease and injury. We're a multidisciplinary team, deeply inspired by the purpose of innovating for the better and backed by top-tier venture capital funds. The current team sits at just under 50 talented people. Our revolutionary 3D cell biology technology enables pioneers in the fields of drug discovery and medicine to radically drive innovation from disease treatment (in areas such as cancer) through to the way we treat injuries.

One of our current projects is developing a medical device capable of delivering autologous cells directly onto the patient’s skin within a 3D synthetic matrix that will revolutionise the treatment of wounds and burns.

We are now looking for a Research Scientist to join the team and help us develop biomaterials for skin regeneration.

The role

The role will report directly to the Lead Scientist and be responsible for planning and carrying out experiments to optimise the biomaterial formulation. That includes preparation and characterisation of the material, operation of our 3D bioprinters, maintenance of our in vitro skin cell cultures and analysis of the experimental results. The aim is understanding the effect of various components of the 3D matrix on the behaviour of skin cells. These findings will educate the choice of biomaterials to be considered for animal studies and clinical trials.

To fit this role we need someone with the following:

  • Passion for applied and translational scientific research
  • Postgraduate degree in a relevant discipline (Biomedical engineering, Medicine, Biological
Sciences) or 3-5 years of research experience in the biomedical field
  • Experience working with cells in a PC1 or PC2 facility and familiarity with the most common
    characterisation techniques
  • Ideally some exposure to 3D cell culture, skin biology, bioprinting, regenerative medicine,
    wound healing
  • Enthusiasm to learn new technical skills outside of their background
  • Teamwork attitude
  • Able to work primarily from our Sydney-based office

Our culture

We highly value our culture, diversity and the passion we have for taking our product to market. A lot of companies talk about their culture, but not many live it the way we do. We place a high value on creating a unique and exceptional workplace. Unlike many other startups, we live and breathe work-life balance.

Our passions are many and we believe the journey is as important as the outcome. So for us, it's about building the best team and culture and loving every aspect of what lays ahead. We provide optionality in terms of working from home and the office, which is based in Sydney. Equity and a strong market based salary are on offer, within a supportive but empowered, fully agile environment, which we have worked hard to create.

Come and do work that really matters within a team who care as much about one another as the mission.
